The Accident...

On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He was taken by Careflight to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He is currently being treated in the Trauma ICU. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.

Friday, March 27th

Donna told me this morning that she held Tim's right hand last night, and he pulled it away from her. I'm so glad to hear of him moving that arm.

2:00pm - I visited Tim, and he is not responding to my questions. I was really very distraught since he was able to respond yesterday. The nurse, Nathan, explained to me that each day will be different. Just because he responded to me yestereday, does not mean he will today. Brain injuries are so complicated to recover from. His health is good, and he is on an upward trend. We should just expect him to stall out from time to time. His stitches were taken out from the surgery on his skull. This will heal and have to be reopened later to replace the portion of skull removed earlier to allow his brain to swell.

5:00pm - Tim is still not responding to me, but he responded to a nurse. Maybe it's personal. He was measured for a helmet during this visit. He will be wearing this helmet during his rehabilitation until his next surgery to replace the missing skull piece. He may have to wear it for a while after that too. I just don't know. I turned on the TV for Tim, so he's not just laying there looking at the ceiling. He did look at the TV a little, but I don't really know if he liked it. While he was laying there he would push his shoulder out and knock off his Trach connection. That really startled me, but the nurse said he can continue breathing on his own if this happens.

11:00pm - Donna & Jessica are having a girls night at my motel room tonight, and I am staying the night at the hospital. I went in to visit Tim and became a little emotional watching him in that bed. I kept turning away to dab my tears so he wouldn't see me. Then he put his hand on my shoulder! I wasn't sure if that was a fluke or not. But then he did it four more times during the visit. I felt like my big brother was comforting me. That's just like Timothy.
