The Accident...

On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He was taken by Careflight to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He is currently being treated in the Trauma ICU. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.

Wednesday, March 25th

8:00am - Donna and I met with Dr. Rush (Trauma Surgeon) regarding the results of the CAT Scan. They have detected several blood clots in his groin area. One clot in particular is heading for the lungs. They will be doing a procedure today to place a filter or screen in his Pulminary Artery to block any blood clots from proceeding to the lungs. He cannot be on blood thinners right now to break up the blood clots because of the head injury. The filter will stay in permenantly. The doctor said the blood clot explains alot about why his breathing has not been any better, and also explains the fever. Once his head injury is recovered he can begin blood thinners to break up any blood clots in his system. Tim is also having an MRI on his head and neck today. Maybe he can be done with the neck brace after that. The Tracheotomy has been rescheduled until tomorrow, since he is already having another procedure done today (the filter).

11:00am - Tim actually woke up. He had been off the Morphine for many hours, and was able to open his eyes and focus on Mother, Lori, Donna, and me. Donna explained to him what was going on. He does seem confused, but not real aggitated. He was looking around the room alot. His right eye is not blinking, but the left one is. His problem is his right side. It's still too early to jump to conclusions. He definitely hates the tubes in his mouth. We are looking forward to the Tracheotomy tomorrow. That sounds weird, but it will be easier for Tim to deal with.
