The Accident...

On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He was taken by Careflight to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He is currently being treated in the Trauma ICU. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.

Tuesday, April 7th

Tim is talking better today, and more often. He can still be hard to understand, but if he speaks loud enough you can usually tell what he is saying. His thoughts do not always match his spoken word. So if you're talking to him, he may start talking about something totally different in response to you. This is not always the case. He is much more lucid after a good amount of sleep. He walked 40 feet this morning with a walker and the help of a physical therapist. It was difficult for him to do, but he did it. He was exhausted afterwards. Yesterday, Tim passed a swallow test given to him by the speech therapist. He can now eat food and drinks. He is on a liquid diet to begin with, moving on quickly to soft foods. The more he can eat, the faster he can get rid of the feeding tube in his abdomen.

The hospital is holding a meeting with the family tomorrow morning. It looks like they are trying to discharge Tim on Friday. The family feels this is too soon. But since he does not have medical insurance the hospital is ready to move him out. We are trying to get him set up with a Brain Rehabilitation program. Problem is, most of them will not take uninsured patients, and charity beds are few and far between. Also, we are in a rush to get Tim & Donna's house ready for a wheelchair (especially the bathroom). So, if you are interested in helping out - please email me at lisaallen30@yahoo.com .
