The Accident...

On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He was taken by Careflight to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He is currently being treated in the Trauma ICU. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.

Monday, April 20th

5:35am - Tim was moved to pre-op to prep for surgery. His surgery is not until 7:00am, it's one of those hurry up and wait manuevers. I will post his progress as I hear it.

11:00am - Tim's surgery is completed. It took longer than expected because the liner that was placed between his brain and skin flap was sticking to the brain. So Dr. Silva said he wanted to take his time. No other problems. We were warned that if his brain begins to swell, the bone plate will have to be removed again. He will be on Manitol, a medication to prevent swelling in the brain, for a few days. If the brain is going to swell, it will happen in the next few days.
Tim has been moved back to the Trauma ICU, where he was before.

1:00pm - I going to be honest, Tim was having a really hard time after surgery. I guess the anesthesia left him very foggy and paranoid. He was very afraid. He thought the hospital staff was trying to kill him. We found out that he fought them very hard upon transport. He scratched up a nurse's arm during the struggle. So when we went in to see him, he was restrained and wearing mittens. He said he felt like his head was going to explode, it hurt so bad. They were giving him Morphine to take care of the pain and help him sleep.

5:00pm - I can't believe the change a few hours makes. Tim was talking very lucid. He understands what is going on, and is very cooperative. The morphine is working well to relieve his pain. He was able to talk to Donna, Daddy, Me, and Torrey. The medication does make him sleepy. So we are leaving him to sleep alot right now. Since he is in the Trauma ICU, there is a visitation schedule. I will write tomorrow if he should receive visitors or not.
