The Accident...

On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He was taken by Careflight to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He is currently being treated in the Trauma ICU. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.

Tuesday, April 21st

8:00am - Tim is now allowed to have water. He was so thirsty all day yesterday, and he was limited to wet sponges to suck on and spoonfuls of ice chips occasionally. He will be allowed to have a liquid diet starting today as well. They are trying to change his pain relief from Morphine to an oral pill (forgot the name). The nurse said that continued use of Morphine can lead to headaches. So we are trying to avoid that. However, if his pain is too bad he can always have the morphine if he wants it. Tim is still very clear today. He is just tired and sore. He is cooperative for the most part. He knows that he must remain calm and rest to get better. He does not seem to have lost much ground from his previous recovery. His right side seems to move just fine. He still has to be restrained when he is alone. We take the restraints off while we are in the room with him. We keep our visits short to allow him to rest as much as possible. But overall, we are very pleased with his current condition. I hope that he progresses as quickly as he did before.

10:00am - Tim was not real clear when Mother and Daddy went in to see him. He had just waken up, and further into the visit he became more lucid. When I went in to see him, he was very clear. He is still tired and sore. I noticed that his left eye is beginning to swell. After his first surgery to remove the bone flap, both eyes swoll up pretty bad. He was unconscious so I don't know if he could have opened his eyes or not. For his sanity, I hope his eyes don't swell shut.
