I spent the night away from the hospital last night. So when I saw Tim today, I already noticed a difference in him. He is very aware of his surroundings and his condition. He was able to correctly answer the doctor regarding where he lives, where he is now, why he is there, etc. The only question he could not answer is the current president. It seems that he knew, but just could not recall the name. His physical therapy is going well. He tries to walk too fast for their taste. He's just in a hurry to get better. He did walk for a few minutes without his walker. But afterwards he is pretty tired. His I.V. was removed today. The pump connected to his scalp should be removed tomorrow. While talking to Tim he would make some mistakes regarding a few memories, but caught himself and said "my brain's just not right yet." This can be very discouraging, so he needs as much encouragement from us as he can get.
They are talking about discharging Tim on Saturday. I know he is looking forward to that. Donna is still trying to work out the choices for his future rehabilitation. It is not necessary for him to be hospitalized full time any longer. Any therapy he receives can be accomplished through an outpatient facility or "Home Health."
The Accident...
On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He was taken by Careflight to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He is currently being treated in the Trauma ICU. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.
