On the morning of Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Tim Dobbs fell from his attic through the ceiling and landed on his back on the hardwood floor below. He sustained a severe skull fracture, bruised brain, and bruised lungs from this fall. Tim was placed in a medical induced coma to begin his treatment.

Thursday, April 2nd

2:00pm - Lori (his other sister) visited Tim today. She said that he is moving his right arm alot more. She joked that his abs are getting a workout because he is sitting up in bed very often - trying to get up. The nurse put him in a chair, where he is still strapped in. He seemed to be content. He must wear the helmet anytime he is out of bed. Even though he clearly hates it, he wasn't trying to pull it off today. But Lori noticed it must make him hot because his head was sweating. The chair is located next to the sink. Tim reached over to pull a small bottle out of the toiletry kit provided by the hospital. It was a small bottle of baby powder. Lori didn't think he was trying to read it, since he was holding it sideways. But he used both hands trying to open it. He kept pulling on the top, then he tried twisting the top the wrong way, and finally figured it out. He turned it upside down and gave a good squeeze. I'm so happy to hear about this simple problem solving ability, no matter what the mess. Lori also mentioned during her talks with Tim he smiled twice, still only using the left side of his mouth. She said that he already looks much better from last week.

5:00pm - Tim gave Donna quite a scare. The nurse had only been out of Tim's room for a few minutes when he tried to get out of bed. He sat up, opened his legs to where he was straddling the bed and threw his torso forward. His hands were still in restraints, so his head hit the footboard. And that is how Donna found him. They ran a CAT scan to rule out any new injury to his head, and he is fine. He now must wear a torso restraint. I'm sure this does not make him happy. But he needs to be safe first, and happy second.
